Structurally there are three types of columns, which divided to :
1- Spirally reinforced columns
2- Tied columns
3- composite columns
In this article I'm going to talk about the spirally reinforced columns only.
These columns are usually circular or square in shape, the couldn't be a rectangular shape. The bars are located in a circle and the spiral is turned to cover these bars. Moreover, according to the ACI Code minimum reinforcement for spirally reinforced columns is six bars ( for longitudinal bars ).
